Kids Need Nature Nature Needs Kids
I wish that more parents had the opportunity to see how well the kids responded to the program, and how great the staff was to keep their interest. I am so happy that I was able to share the time with everyone, and see how interested my son was in the program.
My son and his friends have been singing camp songs ever since they came home last week. Just hearing about the adventure of the camp, my younger son cannot wait until he gets to go in a few years. After getting his park pass, my son has been planning our family vacations for the next year, and wants us all to start hiking together as a family in the dunes.
When we come, It’s always interesting to see how the “more challenging” students at school thrive in this type of environment. I love that they get to be in an environment where they can be successful without feeling that they’re getting in trouble all the time.
Our trail guide Anthony is a natural as a teacher. His knowledge, kindness and ability to connect with students reveal him to be a truly gifted teacher. His rapport with the students was real rather than simulated. Anthony really taught and his focus never wavered. He did remarkable work. He is a thoroughly professional teacher. The students loved his approach.
One child had his first s’more! Many had their first hiking experiences. The enthusiasm of the leaders was infectious. As a teacher, I got to know my students so much better and see strengths I wouldn’t necessarily see in the classroom.
We had several students that were nervous about coming. This morning I heard these comments from two of them: “Yesterday was one of the best days of my life” and “ I don’t want to go home can’t we stay another day”
Wonderful experience for all children, especially important in this age of technology. The Dunes are is an amazing place.
We didn’t even leave the property & my son was asking to go back next year.
