Where Are The Turtles?!

Learn about the incredible diversity of turtles, some extraordinary adaptations, and how researchers find turtles in the wild. This webinar will introduce native turtle species from the Midwest, many of which can be found while hiking around the Dunes. We will discuss fun facts about these species and what habitats they live in.  We will then focus in on the conservation of the state-endangered Blanding’s turtle. Callie Klatt Golba, a turtle researcher, will discuss strategies used to study these turtles, as well as how this information can help conserve turtle populations.

Callie Klatt Golba graduated from Butler University with a B.S. in Biology, completed her M.S. in Conservation Biology at Northern Illinois University (NIU), and is currently working on her PhD at NIU.  Her research focuses on conservation of Blanding’s turtles, specifically focusing on population ecology and assessing management techniques used to conserve them. She is generally interested in evaluating conservation strategies for endangered reptile and amphibian species. In her free time, she likes to fly fish, take nature photos, and hike with her husband, Joe, her son, Aldo, and her golden retriever, Gillie.
