Childhood curiosity is in danger of being lost. But with your help, it's being found by thousands of students each year, in and around the Dunes.
“My students get very little outdoor time during the school day. There isn’t any recess, or a safe place to play. The focus is on instructional time. Dunes Learning Center programs expose students to new environments and provide an approach to learning that textbooks cannot match.”
Raised on a steady diet of outcome goals and standardized tests, the childhood impulse to explore, imagine, and question is being undermined in a race to “success.” Rewarded for correct answers, and measured against their peers, students are being deprived of perhaps the most powerful tool of learning—the time and encouragement to wonder "why."
Your help is needed to bring these valuable experiences to the children in your community. You can literally see the light switch on in a child's eyes, when they are freed to explore, ask questions, and passionately pursue the things that interest them. This is curiosity at work in nature, and it is the very best of education.
Due to unanticipated funding reallocations, our scholarship fund will fall $20,000 short of projected demand. Your donation is desperately needed to keep valuable, field-based learning experiences affordable and accessible to the children in your community.
