Wonder Women of the Dunes
Wednesday, January 27, 2021
Dive into regional history and storytelling with a new installment of the "Wonder Women of the Dunes." With this virtual presentation, we will learn about the woman who kept the Michigan City lighthouse for over 40 years, the "Lady of the Lake", the Hoosier Prairie advocate, and the founder of the Dunes Learning Center. Learn and discuss the traits these women had in common and how we continue to be inspired by their stories.
This fun evening will be presented by Kim Swift, Chief of Education at Indiana Dunes National Park. She began her career as a Peace Corps volunteer in Papua New Guinea; learned about the park service as a Student Conservation Association intern at Shenandoah; joined the team at Indiana Dunes in 1992 as an interpretive park ranger; hopscotched through the ranks of interpretation in a variety of roles but always focusing on visitor services/education as the path to saving the world, or at least her corner of it.
Author Beth Botts will also be joining the fun! After a long career as a newspaper writer and editor, Beth is now a writer and speaker specializing in science, nature and gardening and is a conservation volunteer. A native of Chicago, she has spent a great deal of time in the Indiana Dunes all her life. Beth is the daughter of Lee Botts, Dunes Learning Center co-founder.
